the winner- paula I love English since I was in junior high. The best way to improve speaking and understand western culture is to study English abroad, but it’s ironic I’ve never been to English-speaking countries.

I am lucky to have an English-related job, but speaking and western cultures are my weak spots. I’ve been trying to improve them by creating study groups for reading English novels, watching movies and practicing English speaking. I did benefit from the study groups, but always feel something wrong. There are no native speakers among us, and two hours per week aren’t enough to immerse myself in English.

Prince Edward Island is a safe and beautiful place. It must be exciting to live in the setting of the novel Anne of Green Gables. Homestay is also attractive to me. I could share what happened everyday with host family and eat local foods at home. It means English talking and western culture classes all day long. Such a no-chinese life means a lot to me.

When I return to Taiwan, I will share my experience at SACLI through BBS, facebook and online forums because word-of-mouth marketing is most effective. When I stay in PEI, I will post pictures and comments on my facebook and blog everyday as well.

After I had the cancer surgery this January, even though everything goes well now, I decided to live as though today is my last day. I need this good short “study abroad” experience, so I applied for the scholarship to realize my dream. I am happy to compete for the opportunity to study English in SACLI, and will be much happier if I win the privilege.
