Great Place for SACLI Students to Volunteer!!!

The Upper Room Soup Kitchen in Charlottetown has been serving meals to those in need since 1984. Soup kitchen自1984年就開始提供餐點給需要的人. 

The Soup Kitchen is run almost entirely by volunteers under the fantastic supervision of Bob King and his right-hand helper, Donna. Soup kitchen的各個服務項目幾乎都是由Bob King 和右手邊的助手 Donna帶領志工們完成.

Operating entirely on donations, the Soup Kitchen is non-profit and non-denominational.Soup kitchen 是個非營利事業單位,所有的運作全都靠來自各界的捐獻.

It is located on Richmond Street, right behind The Guild. Many SACLI students have volunteered at the Soup Kitchen, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.Soup kitchen在Richmond上,就在The Guild的右手邊. 許多思博的學生都曾在Soup kitchen擔任過志工,得到很多珍貴的經驗.

Mussels 根據估狗上的翻譯為''殼菜'',但Mussels並不一種菜,其實是一種貝殼類的海鮮.也有人翻譯成"貽貝''!剛聽到''Mussels''時,我還以為是"muscle''想說,PEI的居民也沒那麼瘋健美,為什麼要造個PEI Muscle的詞,我誤會了 XD~

對照一下咱們台灣八里有名的孔雀蛤,外觀上是不是真的有那麼一點像!PEI有Mussels,那下次我們也可以繞一下英文說:我要去Bali 吃Green Mussels.

PEI Mussels在做法上,也跟咱們台灣的''蒜蒸蛤蜊''大同小異~ 或許是我的私房菜只有那幾道,所以直覺就想到''蒜蒸蛤蜊''

P.E.I.的度假勝地排名更勝巴里島喔!!!

Readers of Travel + Leisure Magazinehave named Prince Edward Island the top Island getaway in continental North America and the fifth best in the world, ahead of Bali, says the P.E.I. Department of Tourism.

 “It’s a real honour to be included on the list and to see the industry recognized in such a big way by the readers of Travel + Leisure Magazine,” said Robert Henderson, minister of tourism and culture in a press release today. “Government and industry have worked very hard for decades to make Prince Edward Island a world-class destination for tourists," said Henderson.  

"To see Prince Edward Island included on the same list as Maui, Santorini and the Galapagos Islands in an American publication is a testament to the excellent product we’ve built over the years, and it speaks volumes about all our hard work.”

How to increase your vocabulary!!

Great suggestion from SACLI Academic Director, Judy MacKinnon.

Every language learner wants a bigger vocabulary, but many language learners have difficulty remembering new words.  If this sounds like you, here are some tips that might help.

Decide what words you need to talk about your interests and study them rather than learning words that you encounter as you read or listen to English.  This will be help expand your vocabulary quickly because you will have likely have opportunities to use the new words in real life.  That is truly the best way to firmly implant the new words into your English vocabulary.

Of course, you will also see and hear new words in English that you’ll want to know, but if you try to remember them all, you will have a problem.  You have to decide which ones to study and which ones to forget.  You should study words that are more common.  When you see a word that you don’t know but you do know that you have seen before, you should learn it.  If you encounter a word you don’t know and you think you have never seen or heard before, than it is probably safe to forget about it.

       每年大西洋龍蝦季的開始,對PEI當地的漁夫來說,可算是年度大事!!! 對PEI當地的居民來說,也是物美價廉的Nothumberland龍蝦可以端上桌,大快朵頤一番的季節!!! 恭喜八月即將出發的Paula可以一飽口福!!!

"Prince Edward Island" is a small and beautiful island with nice read and white sanded beaches. I really like being on PEI and one reason is my wonderful host family. They've become a realy family to me and accept me as a daughter and older sister. I am really going to miss them when I am back in Germany. It was a great decision coming here.

愛德華王子島是個小而美的島嶼,島上有美麗的紅色和白色沙灘. 我非常喜歡待在愛德華王子島,其中的一個理由是我有一個超棒的住宿家庭. 對我而言,他們現在就像是我的家人一般,而他們也把我當女兒看待. 當我回到德國以後,我一定會非常想念他們.來愛德華王子島是個很棒的決定!!!
